The Battle of Little Big Horn The Battle of Little Big Horn is a large piece of american history George Custer was a United States Army officer who won fame as a Civil War general and an Indian fighter in the West Custer is best known for his role in the Battle of the Little Bighorn on June 25 1876 in the Montana Territory In this battle Sioux and Cheyenne Indians killed Custer and all of the men under his direct command The Battle of the Little Bighorn became famous because of disagreement over the reasons for Custers defeat Marcus Reno was a United States Army officer who also became known for his role in the Battle of the Little Bighorn in Montana Territory in 1876 Reno and Custer were supposed to be a team but when Reno realized that they were out numbered he was basically responsible for the death of Custer and all of his men The sad part about this was that he thought that he would be able defeat them with his 47 men but they were all killed also On the morning of June 25 Custers men found an Indian village about 15 miles away It laid in the valley along the Little Bighorn River Custer expected to find about 1000 Indian warriors He believed his 650 soldiers could easily capture the village However the camp really had at least 2000 Sioux and Cheyenne warriors This group whose leaders included Crazy Horse Gall and Sitting Bull was probably the largest gathering of Indian warriors in Western history world book 2001 At the age of 25 Custer became the youngest General in American history In 1863 he led the cavalry in Gettysburg For more than ten years afterwards he fought in the ongoing war against the Indians earning even their respect as the brave soldier The legendary warrior was determined to preserve his peoples traditional way of life He was the
