The southeast Regions is very unique It is one only the only regions in North America to have swamps But when you think of the Southeast is all you think about is swamps Well you are right swamps cover about 710 the of the total area The rest is open plains The people of this region are very diverse Mainly in Florida due to tourism I hope you enjoy my report The Southeast Region lies along the southern coast of the Atlantic Ocean and the southern gulf cost This region extends from the Atlantic coast on the east to the western border against the Appalachians in the west In terms of absolute location the region stretches from 25 N in the Florida Keys to 38 N in Virginia This is a distance of approximately 1300 km It also reaches from 76 W in Cape Hatteras to Approximately 84 W in the northwest coast of Florida The maximum width of the region is 300 km It contains the States of Gorgia Florida And North and South Carolina The Southeast region is very flat The highest point in Florida for example is just 105 M above see level The coastline has many fine beaches that attract tourists Along the coast of The Carolinas and Gorgia there are many small flat islands that are parallel to the coast These are known as barrier islands or Sea Islands They form Archipelagos 100s of miles long These islands were formed by the deposition of river sand into the sea These islands protect the sometimes deadly storms of the Atlantic Rivers in this region flow very slowly This is because of the very flat land Many lakes dot the surface of this region The largest lake Lake Okeechobee is somewhat of a giant sough and in its deepest part it is only 4 meters deep Major rivers include St Andrews and the Savannah River The soils of
