Franklin Delano Roosevelt As a child the first movie I ever remember going to see was Annie with my father at the age of eight The one scene I remember captivating me most was the little orphans visit to the White House to visit the president Franklin Roosevelt I was amazed that someone like the president of the United States could be in a wheel chair Ever since that movie I have been very fascinated by FDR and his difficult four terms in the White House There has probably not been another president in our countries history that dealt such vast and complex event Coming into the job in his first two terms he faced the great depression and by creating many new work and social programs he helped to end it Then during his last two terms he was brought into WWII and with negotiations and charisma with European leaders he helped to make an overall Allied victory Maybe most amazing of all he did make the American people happy enough to re-elect him for the record number of four times Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30 1882 on his fathers estate Springwood in Hyde Park NY He was the only child of James and Sara Roosevelt When Franklin was born his father was 53 years old and his mother was 26 years old His mother brought him up to live by rigid schedules for studying and playing while his father taught him the advantages of being wealthy However James also taught young Franklin that wealth also came with responsibility to people less fortunate then he Both his fathers and mothers lesson stayed with him through out his life and his presidents Franklin was never in a traditional school setting until he was 14 when he entered the Groton Preparatory School He graduated from Groton in 1900 and enrolled in Harvard University He majored in
