Music in Society Project Christina Aguilera was born on December 18 1980 in Staten Island NY She first began performing at talent shows at the age of six At eight she was on the show Star Search where she was the runner-up When she was ten she sang the National Anthem for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins and two years later she joined the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club After the show ended two years later Christina got the chance to travel overseas She performed in Japan where she released a single and in Romania In 1998 she auditioned to sing the song Reflection for the movie Mulan During that same week she was offered a record deal from the recording company RCA Her self titled album which was released in August 1999 was number one on the music charts and also went platinum It sold more than 12 million copies world wide She was named one of the most fascinating women of 1999 and she won 1999s Best New Artist at the ALMA awards Christina also received two Grammy nominations for Best New Artist which she won and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance In the year 2000 Christina recorded a Spanish album called Mi Reflejo and a Christmas album Some of her other accomplishments are she performed at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show in 2000 performed for the President and had an international tour in the summer of 2000 In 2001 sang Nobody Wants to be Lonely with Ricky Martin The song was number 11 on the Billboard charts She also sang Lady Marmalade with Pink Mya and Lil Kim The song stayed at number one for five weeks The video for Lady Marmalade won the MTV Award for Best Video of the Year During the end of 2002 Christina released her second album Stripped which featured the single Dirrty Later in the summer of 2003 she went on tour with
