Michael Jordan was born on February 17 1963 in Brooklyn New York He was James and Deloris Jordans fourth child His siblings were James Ronald Deloris and Larry When he was young Michaels family moved to North Carolina There they built a small house and their father built a basketball court in the backyard called The Rack It was built on grass but that was quickly worn down from how much they played Michael went to DC Virgo Middle School and played quarterback on the middle school football team guard on the basketball team and was pitcher and outfield on the baseball team Michaels father and brothers were all only 5 foot 6 inches tall but by high school Michael was already 5 foot 10 inches tall He went to Laney High School and was quarterback on the JV football team and ran track He tried out for the Varsity basketball team as guard but didnt make it He was put on the JV team Later Coach Clifton Herring said that he thought Michael was good enough but on JV he would get more playing time to perfect his skill Michael went to many camps but first became noticed at one where everyone except Michael thought that they were the best Michael knew he could improve and that gave him the edge he needed to win many trophies there Michael had many opportunities for college Recruiters called Michael at all hours of the night trying to talk to him Most people thought that he would go to North Carolina State but he decided to go to the University of North Carolina He was the starting guard almost every single game of his Tar Heels career Michael turned down the Olympic Basketball team to go pro one year before he finished college He was the third pick of the draft for the Chicago Bulls where he played for thirteen years In 1993 his father
