Pablo Picasso was one of the greatest artists of the 21st century He was born in Plaza de la Merced Malaga Spain on the 25th of October 1881 Picasso had no brothers and used to refuse to go to school unless he had one of his fathers pigeons and his paints His parents noticed from an early age his talent and passion for art and by the age of 15 Picasso was able to draw almost photographically Also at 15 he performed brilliantly on the entrance examinations to Barcelonas School of Fine Arts Picasso went through a blue period from 1901 until about 1904 or 5 shortly after a friend had committed suicide During this period he painted many pictures using different shades of blues and usually expressing human misery these paintings usually showed blind figures alcoholics beggars and prostitutes Shortly after this phase he went through a circus period one of the paintings he drew then was of him his wife and his first son but at the side there was a rather large monkey this was probably to show that now he had become a father he had to be more responsible and mature His final phase was cubism which was influenced by African hand sculptured masks and was divided into two stages analytical which means to analyse and synthetic artificial This was Picassos favourite art form and the one that he was most interested in Picasso worked with a man called Georges Braque to develop the first stage of cubism analytical and Picassos favourite subjects to draw were musical instruments still-life objects and his friends Also during this stage he used earth or natural colours like browns oranges and greens and started to look at the texture of his work as well as the colours and shapes he added sand to his paints to make them thicker and give them a rough texture The second stage synthetic was much more decorative and
