Asher Ross Cole Zucker Chris Kim Adam MullinaxSalvador Dali was born in Figures Spain on May 11 1904 Figueres is located in the northwestern part of Spain in an area also known as Catalonia His parents first son also named Salvador died 9 months before Salvador was born His parents were so distressed about Salvadors death that they named Salvador after their first son This greatly affected Salvadors mental development From the beginning of Salvadors social life he was a strange child and was always craving attention Many things scared him such as grasshoppers which were a subject for future paintings such as The First days of Spring Then after he was out of school he still did strange things to attract attention One time for instance he showed up in a limousine full of cauliflowers and another time he lectured a class on art while wearing a deep-sea diving suit Dali attended the San Fernando academy of Fine Arts in Madrid as a young man With his first one-man show held in Barcelona in 1925 Dali became initially recognized After the third Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh in 1928 Dali gained international fame After his success in Pittsburgh Dali joined the Paris Surrealist Group In 1928 Dali also met his muse lover and future wife Gala Eluard Dali met Gala when she and her husband visited him in Cadaques Gala became the inspiration for many paintings and later in 1928 they were married and went to AmericaDali became one of the leaders of the surrealistic movement after he finished his most famous work The Persistence of Memory in 1931 At this time many of Dalis eccentricities came out into the open For instance Dali believed that aliens fro outer space sent him ideas through his mustache Dali also had many other strange eccentricities During WWII Dali and his wife fled to America and there Dali painted the work enigma of Hitler After WWII the
