Born April 17 1981 in Winfield Ill He selected Colorado over Northwestern where he originally signed out of high school he had selected the Wildcats over Boston College and Michigan State as a prep An older brother Levelle played fullback at Northwestern between 1995 and 1998 for Gary Barnett At CU This year he received plenty of preseason accolades as he was selected as a third-team All-American by Athlon along with being a near unanimous first-team all-Big 12 choice The Sporting News ranked him as the No 7 running back in the nation with Lindys Big 12 Football tabbing him No 14 and Phil Steeles College Football No 17 on their lists He had a tremendous spring as he was named the recipient of the Fred Casotti Award as the outstanding offensive back in addition to being one of 15 players to earn honors on the prestigious spring Victory Club He rushed for 150 yards and two scores on just 15 carries in the spring game He stands 48th on the all-time rushing yards list 946 and is tied for 38th on the scoring chart 96 points going into the season His Soph year he led the team in rushing in earning honorable mention all-Big 12 honors from the Associated Press as his tough aggressive running keyed late season wins over Nebraska to win the Big 12 North Division and then over Texas to claim the league crown He rushed 190 times for 946 yards on the year scoring 16 touchdowns with his 96 points also a team best He had five 100-yard games topped by a 24-carry 198-yard effort against BCS No 1 Nebraska a game in which he scored a school record six touchdowns in leading CU to a 62-36 win USA Today and Sporting News Radio named him the national player of the week and the Big 12 recognized him as its offensive player of the week for his effort
