Introduction Steinbeck was born in Salinas California in 1902 His first 3 books were financial failures and he worked at various kinds of jobs to The book that I read is called the Pearl and the author is Steinbesurvive including fruit picking His first success was Tortilla Flat 1935 which was followed by In Dubious battle a number of shorter works leading to his great masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath which won the Pulitzer prize in 1940 In 1962 Steinback became the sixth American to win the Nobel Prize for literature John Steinback died at his home In New York City in December 1968 The genre of this book is fiction because there is a lot of drama in this book Body Summary This book is about a really poor Indian family who always dreamed of being rich And that dream happens when Kino found a pearl that is beyond price With this peal he wanted to have a better life for himself his wife an his little son but instead his life gets even worse than what he had before Setting Conflict the conflict is Kino against the white man because sinse Kino is Indian and the rest of the people arent they try to take adventage on Kino Climax the climax is when Kino is under the water looking for a pearl when he ses a big oyster that is a little open that has something inside thats glowing and Kino picks it up gos back up to his little canoe and opens it completely and finds out that it is a magnificent pearl Themes the Themes is if the pearl is going to change Kinos life in a good way or a bad way conclusion short passage 23-25 I selected this passage because it was for me the interesting
