William Wallace Robin Hood Sir William Wallace of Ellerslie is one of historys greatest heroes but also one of its greatest enigmas He was a shadowy figure whose edges have been blurred by myth and legend Even the date and place of birth have been mis-stated William Wallace with superb generalship and tactical genius led a country with no previous warlike tradition to triumph over the much larger better armed and better trained English forces Wallace grew up in a town called Ellerslie When he was around seventeen years old his father was murdered right in front of him and his older brother was killed shortly after Englishmen killed them both This is where Williams hatred for the English began William also had a younger brother who was believed to have been a few years after Williams death and a mother who was not even mentioned in the movie Braveheart The average height of a teenage male in that period was a little over five feet tall William was around six foot seven inches Because of this he was constantly harassed by English teens When he was eighteen years old William decided he was sick of being made fun of When a group of four English teens came up to him and started making fun of him and pushing him around William took out a knife and plunged it into the young adults heart The other teens would soon become his next victims A warrant was issued for his arrest so William fled Ellerslie and moved in with one of his uncles It is unclear as to where and what William Wallace was doing between 1292 and 1297 It is believed that during this five-year period William was murdering English travelers and giving their money to Scottish Peasants This is why many historians believe that William Wallace is Englands Robin Hood It is believed that
