Have you ever had anyone be cruel to you or seen someone be cruel to someone you know Many people mostly high-schoolers are very cruel to one another Everyone wants to fit in and be popular or cool and they end up turning on people that are there for them for others who most likely wont be there for them in the future In the short stories The Fan Club by Rona Maynard A Kind of Murder by Hugh Pentecost and Fragile Hope by Theodore L Thomas respectively all use climatic events and characters and the decisions that they make to reveal to the reader how cruel people can get just to be accepted into the in crowd You never know how fast some people will turn on you to be accepted into societyIn The Fan Club Rona Maynard uses Rachel to get across how cruelty affects people In this story the in crowd is mean to Laura and Rachel Diane Terri Carol Steve and Bill always made fun of Rachel and Laura They would sit in the back of the class just laughing at them and passing notes and whispering Laura would do anything to not be made fun of anymore and to be friends with them Rachel wanted to be friends with Laura but Laura knew that if she became friends with her the in crowd would make fun of them even more No matter how friendly Rachel was to Laura and no matter how many compliments she gave her Laura tried not to make their conversations too long Laura was always worrying about what the in crowd was thinking of her and thats why Laura turns on Rachel In the story it says And Laura began to clap Rona Maynard 10 Laura began to clap with everyone else making fun of Rachel Rachel was so nice to Laura and only wanted to be her friend but Laura turned on Rachel for people
