Many times in literature we see similar traits between two or morecharacters of different stories Such is the case in the ancient tale ofBeowulf and in Sir Thomas Mallorys Morted Arthur Although King Arthurand Beowulfs fighting strategies and beliefs were different we see thatthey are both brave skilled and distinguished men It is said that Beowulf fought with his hands alone whereas KingArthur fought every battle with his knights and his legendary swordExcalibur These men also had their own morals and values For example thestory of Beowulf is mostly a pagan tale with some Christian undertones andMorted Arthur is primarily a Christian story Beowulf fights so that hisname may live on even after he has passed and Arthur and his knights fightto serve God At one point in Arthurs life he even sets out on a quest tofind the Holy Grail which is said to be the cup that Jesus Christ used atthe Last Supper Despite Beowulf and King Arthurs differences they are bothcourageous in the face of evil For instance the heroic warrior Beowulfslays not one but two ferocious swamp dwelling creatures One of which hedefeated as an old man King Arthur also destroyed his greatest enemyMordred even though he was weak and wounded Both Arthur and Beowulf knewthat by killing their opponents it would mean their death but continued tofight anyway This proves their common trait of bravery In order to overcome such mighty foes theses men would have had to beskilled fighters which in fact they were
