It is difficult to compare Gilgamesh with any creation myth but the one that comes closest to it would be Genesis It is almost seems as if the stories were cut away from each other Both have very many similarities The most blatant similarity is the major flood in both stories Each flood is global and causes the whole world to be drowned Yet there are differences to the floods in the stories In Genesis the flood was caused by Mans wickedness In Gilgamesh the flood was caused by Mans sins Gilgameshs flood was fairly short when compared to Genesiss being that one was only six days and nights and the other being forty The sender of the flood in Genesis was Yahweh which is only one person In Gilgamesh the sender of the flood was an assembly of gods Although a minor difference is it still showing the different faiths of the world as in Genesis where the monotheistic religion has god directly result the flood In the polytheistic faith in Gilgamesh the flood was caused by many gods Both floods were caused by heavy rain but the flood in Genesis was also caused by ground water overflowing In both stories heroes are sent to help rebuild the earth In Genesis Noah is sent with an ark to replenish the animals In Gilgamesh Utnapishtim is told to build a boat as well and load it with animals Farnsworth Noahs message was sent directly from god and Utnapishtims message is given to him in a dream Farnsworth The boats in both of the myths are very large with Noahs being three stories and Utnapishtims being six stories Farnsworth Noah was only allowed to bring family members along in his ark while Utnapishtim allowed to have family and some other human passengers The odd thing about Utnapishtims boat is that it is square it is rare that a boat is square
