Comparison Smith vs Bradford In comparison to the content of both John Smiths writing from The General History of Virginia and William Bradfords excerpt from Of Plymouth Plantation showed few similarities and many differences Almost everything in one of the books is opposite to everything in the other such as the lack of preparation both Smiths group and Bradfords group of colonists suffered Bradfords suffered from the lack of proper clothing for the severe weather in the winter they arrived in Smiths group suffered from lack of nourishment Many more similar conflicts appeared in each colony as they began to settle Because of the lack of food in Smiths colony many colonists became ill and suffered for lack of nourishment Their leader at the time was very selfish in the way that he had the best food and kept it for himself and refused to share it with the other colonists In Bradfords colony more than half of the colonists died They were unaware of the severe weathers in the winter and had no idea they would need heavy clothing so they didnt have any Most became sick from the cold and did not make it through the winter A major conflict which erupted in Smiths colony was the selfishness of the colonists in the way that they refused to work for themselves to provide shelter or even food Smith rendered this attitude of the selfish colonists by incorporating the rule of no work no food Bradfords group on the other hand was quite selfless The colonists who had not fallen sick were more than happy to help and do the work of those who had fallen ill and unable to work for themselves Indians were encountered in both colonies but each had different reaction in the beginning but ended up with the same outcome Smith was kidnapped by a group of Indians while leading an expedition on the Chicahominy River The Indians had
