In the middle ages entertainers and writers used love stories to entertain their audiences In other words writers and storytellers used characteristics of medieval romance This is true in The Princess Bride and Tristan and Iseult by Joseph Bedier Both stories show characteristics of medieval romance in ways that are similar and different One way that both stories are similar is that they both have a conflict between love and marriage In Tristan and Iseult the conflict is shown in a way that Tristan and Iseult love each other but king Mark is the one that marries Iseult even though she does not love him In The Princess Bride prince Humperdink wants to marry Buttercup but Buttercup does not want to marry Humperdink because she loves Wiessly Another way that both stories are similar is that both stories use elements of fantasy In Tristan and Iseult their is a fearsome dragon that Tristan slays in order to win Iseult for King Marc In The Princess Bride Buttercup and Wiessly come across giant mice and fire coming out of the ground when they enter the forest Even though The Princess Bride and Tristan and Iseult are similar they are also different in a few ways One way that they are different is that Tristan and Iseult centers around high birth and The Princess Bride doesnt For example Tristan is a prince Iseult is a princess and King Marc is a king On the other hand in the The Princess Bride Buttercup was born on a farm and Wiessly was a farm boy Another way that they are different is that Tristan and Iseult emphasizes a little on Christianity and The Princess Bride does not Tristan and Iseult by Joseph Bedier and The Princess Bride show some characteristics of medieval romance in similar and different ways One similarity is that both stories have a conflict between love and marriage However in Tristan and Iseult it appears
