The main characters from Maiden Voyage Youth A Narrative and Captains Courageous The main characters from Maiden Voyage Youth A Narrative and Captains Courageous came from different backgrounds and went through a very different journey but they were taught the same thing When I first finished reading these three books I could only see a few similarities between them How could three books so different be so much the same After I was asked to write about what their similarities were I began to notice that they had a lot more in common then just the sea The most noticeable similarity I found in the books was that each of the main characters learned great lessons that would aid them in their journey through life All of the main characters Tania Marlow and Harvey started their voyage as selfish unknowledgeable people who were very sheltered throughout their lives At the end of their voyages however they were no longer who they once were they had all done a complete 180 degree turnaround and came to realize an essential part of themselves The story of Tania in the Maiden Voyage was very well written but it did not grasp my attention For some reason I have never been interested in reading fictional adventures When I read about Tania Aebis decision of choosing the opportunity to sail around the world instead of getting a college education I was outraged I thought she was so unintelligent for making a poor mistake like that As I read further however I realized that college is not for everyone and you can learn crucial life lessons through alternative experiences Throughout her experience it was very clear that Tania learned new things Psychologically the first couple of days at sea were the most difficult to accept After being abruptly cut off from civilization It took me a while to adjust to the radically altered life condition 47 Not only
