Heraclitus and Parmenides philosophical thoughts agree and contradict each other while discussing if oneness consists of opposition and flux or if oneness is simply being Heraclitus encompasses the one and the many along with logos Heraclitus believes that all things come into being through opposition and all are in flux 19 His ideal oneness is comprised of the notion that all things are in constant opposition and flux Heraclitus believes that opposition tension and conflict are a necessity to balancing the world order For example a river is in constant flux due to waters constantly movement while its also in constant opposition with the banks that confine its shape and size Heraclitus believes the world is composed of the one and the many That many parts make up one thing for example many parts the spoke tire and frame make up the one bicycle wheel Heraclituss philosophy can be found and applied throughout the world Furthermore Heraclitus conceived the belief of logos That thoughts or messages logos steer all things 22 and unify the world Logos help to keep world order according to their message Heraclituss ideas that all things are one and many that is in a constant state of opposition and flux While logos themes contribute to world order Heraclituss philosophical views contributed to Parmenides similar and contradicting beliefs Parmenides philosophy establishes the concept of being Parmenides concept of being stems from a reconciliation with Heraclituss one and the many The basic theory of Parmenides is that being is and nothing is not 28 and that there is only the one He recognizes one thing may be made up of many like Heraclitus said but there is only the one For example a desk has a chair lamp and computer but there is only the one desk The other things associated with it are unrelated to Parmenides concept of one This is where he differs from Heraclituss beliefs Parmenides also notes the
