The Romantics The two styles of writing that the Romantics and the Enlightenment writers used were very different The Romantic era took place after the French Revolution and the Enlightenment The Enlightenment writers used only reason in their writings which were almost the opposite style of writing that the Romantics used The Romantics used feelings and imagination in their writings Many of the Romantic writers have survived today in literature religion and history because of the strong feelings that were expressed in their writings Poetry was the best way to portray these feelings for the romantic writers The romantic writers were very open minded to their surroundings They liked to write about nature rather than how it works The romantic style of writing was full of life rather than the enlightenment writers whose thoughts were unchanging and lifeless The Enlightenment writers also looked down upon religion and faith They proclaimed that men could get along without god and improve themselves without the aid of God The Romantics on the other hand saw religion as the bases of life and faith and the gateway to knowledge The Romantics use of feelings in their writings was one of the reasons for their success in spreading their ideas They spread these ideas through poetry because it was a very powerful tool of explanation Since the romantics viewed the church as a source of knowledge they supported it in theyre writings The Romantics success in literature through poetry and their support of the church helped their sense of feelings to survive throughout history Poetry was very important in the lives of the Romantics They used poetry to express their feelings because it could be written with much more power and it tied their feelings in with their writing Many people excepted poetry so it became a new way of expressing feelings in writing Without poetry the romantics writing would have been much like writing of the past Poetry
