Before I stood up to play Charades I turned to my husband and whispered Although we were not able to make the travel to Wisconsin this year for Christmas I am grateful to be able to spend Christmas here in North Carolina with you and your family He gave me a smile and I felt sense of relief lifted off my shoulders I realized I was no longer the foolish girl bumping into guest during Christmas celebrations but instead I had flourished into a family woman in the eyes of my husband It has been three years since I have been away from home Some Christmas mornings I still hear voices of laughter lingering from my bedroom walls Even though I may miss my family traditions in Wisconsin I have learned to appreciate the different customs both my families have shown me during our Christmas celebrationsI remembered waking up Christmas morning to my mother shattering the silence in the house from the kitchen When I open my eyes I could hear voices of my siblings screams of laughter and anticipation to go sledding from the hallway Without thinking I ran to my closet to put on my snow pants and a fleece jacket I did not want to miss sledding activity before breakfast I then bolted out the front door before I was able to finish putting on my boots into the cold winter air I ran to the nearby park There I was standing breathless but excited to join my siblings sledding and ice skating Not long after I arrived at the park I my mothers voice call us to come home for breakfast As five oclock at night starts to come around I found myself greeting guest at the front door of our house The aroma of the food which lifted into the air as I open and closed the door made my
