The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is a science fiction novel thatportrays a post apocalyptic society The books title embodies thebiological term Chrysalis which is the pupal stage of a butterflyWhile Delirium by Lauren Oliver is a dystopian novel that depicts loveas a deadly disease called amor deliria nervosa As one analyzes the twonovels the similarities and differences of their settings charactersand theme become apparent In The Chrysalids by John Wyndham and Delirium by Lauren Oliver there really is no true nor perfect imagethat can it be proven right using religious or political policies whichare both hypocritical and totalitarian In The Chrysalids Waknuk one of the distinct societies is similarto Portland Maine in Delirium Their societies cannot accept the factthat their citizens may not be of the true image Furthermore theydo not accept the people for who they are Believing that reconfiguringthem is the way to go without realizing no human can be perfect This isillustrated in the first chapter of Delirium it had been sixty-fouryears since the president and the Consortium identified love as adisease and forty-three since the scientist perfected a cure Oliverpg1 In Waknuk their community is obsessed with obeying Gods lawsthrough strict rules Such as keeping pure the stock of the lord andwatching for mutants considering any deviation as blasphemy fromthe devil This is interpreted in the second chapter by David THENORM IS THE WILL OF GOD and REPRODUCTION IS THE ONLY HOLY PRODUCTIONand THE DEVIL IS THE FATHER OF DEVIATION Wyndham Pg18 Whichshows resemblance to the novel Delirium where the author describesPortland Maine as all US cities surrounded by guards and electricalfences In which the President and Consortium condemn love as a diseaseDemanding that all citizens receive the procedure upon turning eighteenIf not they are considered Invalids that live in the Wilds unregulatedterritory
