As the world turns year-by-year there are many new technological breakthroughs of all sorts that generally make life simpler less time consuming and convenient With all these new advances and large-scale developments we have seemed to forgotten our place on this planet and our dependence on an intact ecosystem What we now begin to realize yet still do little about is that when man destroys nature he as a result is destroying himself David Suzukis Essay and a movie called Erin Brockovitch both approach this matter from two different perspectives Suzuki stresses that we must not distance ourselves and our children from nature for it is an extension of who we are In the movie Erin Brockovitch it is shown how the contamination of our life source water can lead to a chain reaction of deaths of species inhabited around it In both Suzukis essay and EB the main concern is the well being of people David Suzukis concern is that of species in general and the human approach to nature that surrounds us David states that When children who know their place in the ecosystem see factories spewing poison into the air water and soil they will feel ill because someone has violated their homewe have poisoned the life support systems that sustain all organisms because we have lost a sense of ecological placePara10 pg100 Erin Brockovitchs concern is somewhat different and on a bit more personal slant She is mostly worried about the people who have access to the contaminated water and are being exposed to dangerous life threatening chemicals What makes it personal is the fact that she can relate to most families implicated in the scandal For example most people have kids some her childrens age also they are down to earth normal middle class people like herself In essence they both fight against the destruction of nature and for the welfare of fellow man Suzuki states When
