Mao Tse-tung and the Cultural Revolution in China Mao Tse-tung Mao Zedong or Mou Dz365-doong was Chinese revolutionary and political leader He was born on December 26 1893 in a village in Hunan His father was Mao Shunsheng a well-doing peasant and his mothers name was Wen Qimei Mao attended middle school in Changsha the capital of Hunan and then he attended and graduated from the provincial teachers college Hunan Normal School in 1918 Mao has written many great works of politics and poetry Mao Zedong at the age of 17 fought in the 1911 revolution also known as the Xinhai Revolution Afterwards he went back to college to study to become a teacher In 1918 Mao decided to become an assistant in a well-known library where he met the main librarian Li Ta-chao and a renowned professor Chen Tu-hsui who later founded the Chinese Communist Party CCP There he found his love for books and he was influenced by Jean-Jacques Rousseau Charles Darwin and especially Karl Marx Mao married Yang Kaihui in Beijing and traveled around China during the early 1920s and then proceeded to return to Hunan to promote labor rights and collective action Mao became very active in the CCP and became the director of the Kuomintang KMT which caused people to believe that he had very contradicting ideas Mao believed in some KMT ideals and most CCP ideals For example in 1927 the CCP wanted to overthrow most landlords but members of the KMT were either landlords or were relatives of one and did not want this to happen Mao Tse-tung was sent to fix this problem but his solution would be delayed due to civil war During the White Terror the main city that was targeted was Shanghai since it was very communist and many members of the CCP lived here Due to massacres and executions the number of members in the CCP dropped
