WAC 101 September 13 2003 Thomas Bonfiglio Snowboarding Have you ever ridden through knee deep powder before Snowboarding is one of the most exciting and exhilarating sports I have ever participated in It is unlike any other sport that I have ever experienced After the first time I tried it I was hooked It all started when I was thirteen years old I started skateboarding that winter I then started riding and never skateboarded again It had all the benefits of skateboarding and none of the drawbacks First if you want to be comfortable when you are riding you need to acquire the correct clothing so you do not get wet or cold It is necessary to wear long john tops and bottoms Light clothing tends to hold in the heat while also allowing your body to breath under all the gear You will need to wear a comfortable sweat shirt and sweat pants which are worn on top of the long johns Wear a water and snow resistant jacket and pants which is worn on top of all the clothing acting as a shield from the freezing weather The jacket and pants are the most important article of clothing needed for snowboarding My preference is always gortex which keeps you dry from even the harshest conditions Second you will need to get a set of boots and bindings The boots should be comfortable and fit snug but not too tight If the boot is too tight it can cause your feet to cramp up which is never comfortable and is also terrible for performance When purchasing your bindings be sure that the boots fit easily inside the bindings My personal preference when obtaining bindings is straps with the ratchet These bindings tend to be the best and easiest to use It will also be necessary to obtain a pair of socks that will allow your feet to breath keep warm and fit easily into
