The article In Cold Blood Characteristics of Criminal Homicides as a Function of Psychopath written by Michael Woodhouse and Stephen Porter hypothesized that homicides committed by psychopathic offenders would be more likely to be primarily instrumental or cold blooded in nature Whereas homicides committed by non psychopaths often would be crimes of passion associated with a high level of impulsitivity reactivity and emotionality The theories associated with this study were mainly based on the hypothesis predicted by the authors There theories examined the degree of reactivity and instrumentally pertaining to the offenders level of psychopath The presumptions were as followed 1Purely Reactive 2Reactive Instrumental 3Instrumental Reactive 4Purely Instrumental For example if the delinquent was given the title of being purely instrumental in the crime they committed they would be rendered in possessing low impulsivity and low effective arousal while in the act of the crime The authors hypothesized such theories due to the strong congeniality in the research conducted The study itself justified by the authors was that it the first to examine the relationship between psychopathy and homicides It also supported the contention of researchers giving this article a good solid ground for conducting such a study This analysis was first based on a hypothesis and then put on an empirical test The research test and or method used was that of various case studies done on the homicide offenders It involved an in-depth investigation of every single felon examined These participants were incarcerated homicide offender from two Canadian federal institutions FIND MORE METHODS The total number of participants from the two institutes were 125 These numbers broken down can be categorized as follows 104 committed more then one homicide 11 committed 2 homicides 2 committed 3 homicides Their characteristics associated with the crime is related to the end result of the study whether the offender is instrument and or reactive There traits were assessed variously The main assessment was using
