When anyone with any kind of education thinks of the phrase human needs most would come to a concrete conclusion that a human need includes oxygen water food clothing and shelter Well that is from a biological perspective Since I am writing this paper from a sociological point of view the definition of a need is a tad bit different To understand this definition you must have a basic knowledge of the terms need necessities and desires From a sociological point of view a necessity is the things that is critical to maintaing vitality on earth These necessities include the things that most would consider a need which is oxygen water food clothing and shelter as mentioned above Now that we know what a necessity is according to the lectures in class lets discuss a need A need is something as simple as a car or any form of transportation with an internal combustion engine and according to our sociological definitions it is also needed to survive in modern day society There are many reasons why a car is needed to survive Lets just ask our selves a few questions How does the majority of the US population get to work drop the kids off to school or something as simple as going to the grocery store For the most part the answer to this question would be a car Many people would say well what about public transportation A sociologist would tell you that all major forms of public transportation contain some form of an internal combustion engine so there for we all need cars in our life That doesnt mean we have to own one it just simply means that at one point or another we will have to need one in our lives These few reasons will allow me to explain how human needs originate in social reality rather than in biological reality Social realities are based upon the environment and situations
