Gallery Visit Report I visited the Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art Thegallery was lit mainly by sunlight There was no special lighting for eachpiece of art There were quite a few other people in the gallery thatafternoon There was no music playing but it was still loud because ofall of the conversations happening around me Most of the art wasdisplayed in frames and a few were hung on the wall without a frame A mixed media assemblage by Sarah Wiseman called Deluge was one ofthe few pieces that was left unframed Deluge is 48 inches by 98 inchesand was made in 2009 It was made using paint thread and pencil on paper The left side of the painting looks like an architect very preciselysketched I-beams into a grid for a building plan The background of therectilinear grid is an off white color As you look to the right side ofthe picture the grid appears to be washed away by green blue and aquapaint which has been haphazardly brushed on and dripped down from the topof the picture In the middle just as the grid starts to be covered bythe paint tiny stitches made with brown and blue thread make a netting onthe painting and strands of thread hang down from the bottom Deluge contains an example of implied mass and linear perspectiveThe I-beams appear to be three dimensional on the paper Wiseman usedimpasto to show the I-beams being completely covered and consumed by thewater The paint that was dripped down the paper is much thicker than therest of the media used The vertical brush
