BUDDHA AND BUDDHISM After what I have learned in my humanity class Buddhism is a religion that attracted me the most I interested in Buddhism because in my native country Vietnam 90 percents of people are Buddhist Now I have a change to learn and find out more about the popular religion in my country Furthermore Im also attracted by the history of Buddha who had found Buddhism Buddha was born in Kapilavastu in what is now Southern Nepal about 563 BC Siddharhta Gautama was his name According to tradition Siddharhtas birth was predicted that he would be either a great Universal Emperor or Universal teacher and that four sings would show him which course he should follow At the age of twenty-nine in spit of his fathers effort he finally saw the sign showed that he might become the Buddha In order to become the Buddha he had to solve the riddle of suffering One day Siddhartha seated himself beneath a large tree until the riddle of suffering was solved he was attacked by all kinds After 49days he had solved the riddle of suffering and knew the truth he knew what men had to do to overcome the sufferings Buddhism is the great oriental religion found by Gautama Buddha Buddhism has the characteristics of what would be expected in a cosmic religion for the future it transcends a personal God avoids dogmas and theology it covers both natural and spiritual It is based on a religious sense aspiring from the experience of all things Buddhism is a religion which shares few concepts with Christianity For example they do not believe in transcendent or immanent or any other type of God or Gods the need for a personal savior the power of prayer eternal life in a heaven or hell after death etc They do believe in reincarnation the concept that one must go through many cycles of birth living and
