The Justification of the Atomic BombDuring the end of World War II in 1945 the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki These are the first and only times that nuclear weapons were used in a war Due to this World War II remains to be the most brutal and deadliest conflict in world history Six days after the bombing of Nagasaki Japan announced its surrender to the allies by signing the Instrument of Surrender This officially marked the end of World War II The dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan gave relief that the war was over However after several years went by questions began to develop on whether Harry Truman and the United States were justified when they decided to use the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki Even though there is no definite answer and both sides of the issue have valid arguments in my opinion I believe they were completely justified The atomic bomb was created under top secret conditions It was nicknamed The Manhattan Project and was led by the United States with the support of the United Kingdom and Canada Roberts An American physicist named J Robert Oppenheimer was often called the father of the atomic bomb for his important role in leading the project from construction to completion He helped create the formula for refining uranium which resulted in making the bombs work Over two billion dollars was spent during the six year course of the Manhattan Project The bomb was so powerful that atomic scientists claimed there is no military defense against atomic bombs and none is to be expected LappThe first uranium bomb nicknamed the Little Boy weighed in at over four and a half tons and was dropped on Hiroshima on August 6th 1945 It was dropped from the Enola Gay where the explosion killed and injured several thousand people in an instant Three days later
