February 13 1930 Dear father I just received your letter and I am writing you back Even if you are my father and I should take everything you tell me as good advice I do not agree with on what you wrote me I understand your point of view about life and values However I want to tell you that I am not the child you were with in Baltimore We are in the 1930s now and things are changed Time changes everything Time has changed you my mother and me I do not like the way in which you want me to live my life Probably it is because I am not the girl you expected me to be Perhaps it because of you and my mother During my stay with you in Baltimore you never show me that feeling to be protected and to be thought about life Father you always tried to stop me in whatever I wanted to do You have always wished for the type of child I am not I remember the time in High School with all that preaching about what to wear and who to talk with It is not my fault if your marriage was not what you wished it to be Unfortunately I am not like you I do not like to wait for what I like and for what is the best for my life Even when you were proud of me in those few situations such as that time when I was a diver at camp you always had either something to say or to teach me Unfortunately for you we are not the same You have always sought to have success in life even if your marriage and your physical conditions were not the best You have never had the opportunity to do what was the best for you in a peaceful environment Thus since you know what it means you
