Bridget's feedback:
"This essay certainly has a clear sense of personality and voice, making for an interesting read. You lay out your approach, claims, and thesis clearly, and you build up on the argument logically across the body paragraphs. I spot a few areas where the diction overreaches a bit: don't sacrifice precision for style. When the voice is prominent in an analytical piece, mechanics and control will play a big part in ethos.
I want to check in on your opening, which can be read two different ways: the first is a rather sarcastic jab at the prompt, which your instructor may or may not appreciate; the second is to make the point that you didn't wonder if because the text itself, in thoroughly characterizing Cyrano's worldview, didn't allow that thought. If this is the case, you might add in a bit of clarifying language to anticipate your instructor. Similarly, work a little bit further with the final two sentences; the reference to the previous sentence (or is it the last line of the text?) gets a little confusing. I would also caution against putting the ball back in the reader's court (i.e., your instructor's): instead, locate your final point in the argument you've been building up; this will demonstrate confidence in your approach."
