Courage is not the lack of fear It is acting in spite of it This quote was said by Mark Twain explaining what courage is It means that you have to face what you are afraid of your fears Lady Macbeth is just the opposite in Macbeth In this play Lady Macbeth is not as strong a person she would like to be She was not able to drug the guards without drinking kill Duncan or live with the fact that she helped kill Duncan First Lady Macbeth is not a strong person she shows signs of weakness This is evident in act two scene two of Macbeth In this scene Lady Macbeth had to get everything in order for Macbeth so the murder of Duncan would go smooth This included laying the knives in place and drugging the guards Lady Macbeth said That which hath made them drunk hath made me bold What hath quenched them have given me fire This quote explains that Lady Macbeth had to drink a little to get up her courage to drug the guards and lay the knives in place for the murder She didnt have the courage to drug the guards without having anything in her system to calm her or make her brave It shows that she was very scared and nervous before the murder so she had to drink to fix her problems This action also shows that Lady Macbeth was not a strong character this is also clear right after the murder of Duncan Lady Macbeth is not a strong person as she would like to be This is apparent in act two scene two of Macbeth In this scene Macbeth has just murdered Duncan and Lady Macbeth said Had he had not resembled my father as he slept I had onet This quote means that Duncan had reminded Lady Macbeth of her own father so that was her reason why she could
