Sitting back and detaching oneself from personal believes that one was raised in may end up being an obstacle when reading this essay The intention of this essay is solely to explore whether Tensyn Gyatso is or not credible through making references of his teachings and work Credibility is demonstrated through three main qualities 1 moral character and integrity 2 intelligence and 3 good will Foss 2004 I believe that these three qualities are met by the XVI Dalai Lama and will continue along this essay to justify how His teachings and speeches have focused on current events war and political oppression through decades His intention unlike many other politicians is to stop the expansion of intolerance hatred and religious persecution through a more reasonable way The XIV Dalai lama does not advocate war he believes that through love and the understanding of the roots of our own religion we can achieve peace Tensyn Gyatso was born in small village called Takster in northeastern Tibet He was born to a peasant family and at the age of two he was recognized as the reincarnation of the predecessor of the 13th Dalai Lama The Dalai Lamas are considered to be the manifestations of the Bodhisattva of compassion that have reincarnated to serve the people Tensyn Gyatso began his education when he was six years old and by 25 he had completed the Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy In 1950 he was called to assume political power as head of State when Tibet was being threatened by China and in 1959 he was exiled in India after the Chinese took over the occupation of Tibet During his first years in exile Tensyn Gyatso appealed to the United Nations on behalf of Tibet advocating for a constitution for Tibet that would assure democracy In 1987 he proposed a Five-Point Peace Plan that called for Tibet as a zone of peace the end of transfer of ethnic Chinese into Tibet
