In The Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin the author tells us about a sickly wife who dies after seeing her husband alive whom in her mind was dead form a railroad accident She was told this unexpected news by her sister Josephine and who was her husbands friend Richards The author explores one wife who is dominated even by her loving husband and people around her Once she heard about her husbands death she imagines a whole new life of freedom and a way out of loveless marriage In the story Mrs Mallard was presented as a fragile and weak person when the author described her state by saying that she was afflicted with heart trouble She was unsatisfied by the life she was living and it was only yesterday she had thought with a shudder that life might be long Her reaction to the news was quite unconventional because she felt happy and relief The upcoming days felt bright and exciting without him her pulses beat fast and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body His death was a miracle of a new beginning she was drinking an elixir of life She was pressed down by a physical exhaustion that haunted her body and seemed to reach into her soul She felt alive and happy monstrous joy that held her At some point she felt guilty because of what she was feeling she was striving to beat it back with her will She could not believe the way she felt but at the end she let herself be that accomplished woman Mrs Mallard lived dominated just like any woman in 1980s The narrator describes her as young with a fair calm face whose lines bespoke repression The lines of her face are the sign
