They all aid athletes during competition or aid in helping an athlete to achieve their goal The purpose of this essay is to discuss whether or not athletes should take performance enhancing drugs When an athlete uses illegal and some legal performance enhancing drugs they have an unfair advantage over the others competing For example when Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson broke the world record at the Olympics but was later found out to have tested positive for steroids his record stood until a few months ago That shows that him taking the steroids gave him an unfair advantage over the competition Some may ask why do athletes even consider taking these drugs One of the biggest factors in the decision of athletes taking these drugs is the positive aspect The outcome of some of these drugs is enormous One of the most popular amongst athletes is steroids The positive aspects of steroids are decreased body fat and increased muscle size One can see that these outcomes could help an athlete decide in an instant Another factor in the athletes decision is pressure whether it is society or their coaches All athletes feel pressure to get faster stronger and slimmer Why would an athlete want to spend all those countless hours in a gym when they can easily inject this dirt into them No athlete has time to spend in the gym its either now or never for them But again they do not look at the negative effects that the drugs will take on their body In conclusion athletes feel pressure from mostly everyone around them However that does not give them the right to take these drugs for it gives them an unfair advantage
