Can you imagine how an only child would live without her mom for ten months in a totally strange place where the people speak different language She did not even do her own laundry did not fix herself a meal and always asked for her mommys help Yes that was me and the following story comes from my real memory I call it My Year Everyone was telling me that the purposes of being in another country are to learn the language and experience the real culture of that country So I decided to do it because I love languages I was an exchange student originally from Thailand I came to the United State of America in 2010-2011 for my sophomore year in high school I can recall it was in my first grade year that I learned English for the first time Everybody in this private school knew how to count one to ten when I was just humming with them I was behind because all of the other students already had English since kindergarten After first grade I decided to go back to a public school that is closer to my house My English was kind of ahead of the other students however the subject was taught by Thai teachers Typically Thai people do not speak English very well because they are afraid that they will speak with wrong grammar and that is possibly why they are shy and tend to run away when they see foreigners Fortunately I was smart enough to get in the English Program in Middle School In this program all of the classes were taught in English by people who actually speak it But of course I was just a dummy in the first day of school because I had no idea what the teachers were saying But I assumed everyone else in class was experiencing the same
