I prescribe to no political party To tell the truth I am perplexed by the way politicians are handling our government America was built on compromise and it disheartens me to know that the men and women of the House of Representatives and the Senate cannot come together to solve the nations problems at a time when our country is in severe need of reparation Even as someone who is not yet old enough to vote I try to stay abreast of the political climate in this country As a result I am fearful for this countrys future place As politics becomes more of a popularity contest it seems that it has become less of a means of governing and protecting the people for which purposes it was put in power The status of America as a superpower is dwindling rapidly No longer are we the frontrunners in the world in certain respects We lag behind countries that up until a few decades ago were impoverished An example of this is the fact that American has fallen to ninth place with South Korea coming in first for college completion percentage wise They now surpass us in the most essential of areas such as education and technology As a student living in urban America I know too well what its like to question how well I will perform in a world in which good is no longer good enough The more I research colleges and universities the more I realize how much American students are being left behind by their foreign counterparts At this time Americans are concerned with results--be they from politicians or the local high school principal Consequently in many of this countrys schools administrations are more focused on our completion of school rather than how well we measure up How can American students expect to compete with foreign students when we arent even prepared to excel in our own schools Americans are looking
