After the longest semester of my college career and endless hours of Learning and Teaching homework I think Ive come up with my limited and juvenile definition of being a teacher Although the fact still remains that I will not become a teacher I believe that a teacher is a person who has certain characteristics somewhat like a parent According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language the word teacher means one who teaches especially a person hired by a school to teach A teacher is hired firstly to teach and instruct hisher pupils Their instructions are to relay textbook material to students in order to prepare them for the following grade and most importantly preparing them for the future They realize that book knowledge must be relied to the students but they also know that their job is not limited to book information but to real world information A teacher is someone who shows concern and genuine interest in their students and their well being is always at hand They are willing to go the extra mile to support motivate and elevate their students to success and attaining a better healthier life They pride and rejoice in their students when they excel and they comfort and support them when things go wrong A teachers level of understanding surpasses that of an ordinary person Their willingness to help under various situations makes them outstanding Their level of patience and compassion for their students is immeasurable and their unselfish desire for each student to succeed is saint-like Ive concluded that not anyone can take the task of being a teacher it is a gift that only a few possess and a lesser amount know or admit to having this gift A teacher essentially is the closest thing next to a loving caring and loyal parent that a child can ever experience This gift that they obtain goes further than the classroom
