I began my college career at Rogers State University in thefall of 2007 I have overcome many obstacles on the journey to obtaining a college degree This journey has been one of the most important in my life and my time spent studying at Rogers State University has been both a rewarding and eye-opening experience Over the course of my time at RSU I have gained knowledge as well asthe skillsnecessary to become successful outside of the academic environment I have not only grown as a person but I have also acquired the foundation for furthering my formal education and the tools I will need to shape a careerMy education in liberal arts has provided the grounding requiredto synthesize and analyze information solve problems that involve critical thinking and gain a deep appreciation for the humanities However most importantly my education fueled a personal ethical evaluation that would forever change my outlook on lifeIn my first semester at Rogers State University I studied Albert Schweitzer in my Introduction to Philosophy class I distinctively remember reading and discussing the following quotation The first step in the evolution of ethics is a sense of solidarity with other human beings Christian 391 Those simple words sparked my desire tonot only attend college but become an individual capable of ethical evolution I knew from that moment that I wanted to evolve both personally and professionallyto create meaningful connections and interact with a wide variety of people in order to explore my own humanity The pursuit of my studies quicklybecame a deeply personal experience that would contrast my initial perceptions of a college educationI grew up in a small town in Virginia and moved to Oklahoma when I was in my early twenties At that time I had no real intent of attending college I didnt understand the value or the need Upon moving to Oklahoma I quickly landed a job working for an entertainment magazine
