Attending the Workshop on Aging gave me insight and knowledge that was really beneficial A part of me felt sad when I heard about the many illnesses that affect the elderly and how much of an impact it has on ones life Aging is a process of life that we all have to go through Before attending this workshop my fears of aging were very high Loss is a difficult topic for us humans to accept and go through whether it happens to those who we love or to ourselves With aging comes many losses and the more losses people become vulnerable and dependent on others For example we viewed a film about a woman that was aging and her son came to stay with her because he was going through financial hardship He ended up taking advantage of his mother and taking over her home her money and most importantly her heart It is important to have good people around that really care It was hurtful to view this type of behavior coming from a child towards a parent because I am very close to my mother This film gave me insight and deepened my understanding It is critical to have patience with the elderly and ill As we age our minds and our bodies slow down There are many factors that promote good health Such has healthy eating habits annual check-ups exercise healthy intrapersonal relationship and etc Having one person that really cares is crucial to ones well-being Like at any age we all need people around us that we can be ourselves and feel accepted The older one gets the more people they lose around them Sharing common interests with others as we age can help life become more fulfilling Learning new skills and also adopting new hobbies or old ones can help one find new meaning Having gained knowledge about the process and effects of aging is highly
