Santiago The Man Who Would Not Be Defeated Santiago was a strong man and he would not be defeated by any thing even a 900 pound fish Santiago was an old man with few supplies and no helpers Those were some of the challenges he faced First he is and old man He has bad cramps which make him loose some of his strength to hold the line He also gets tired very easy so he fatigues very easily Last he has bad eyes so he cant see very well Second he has very few supplies He has a small skiff which means he can not take in big fish He has one harpoon to kill a shark and if he loses it he has nothing to defend him or his catch He has flimsy poles so they can break easily and not much food or water Last he has no helper No one to help him with his pain no one to help him take in a big fish and no one to talk to When he has no one to talk to he starts to talk to himself and starts to get discouraged Santiago is a very strong man he defended him self and his fish from 4 sharks he helped him self through his pain He also battled his old age At the end he was victorious
