The suspenseful film Psycho 1960 by Alfred Hitchcock is a classichorror film The cast is the dynamic group of stars made up of AnthonyPerkins Norman Bates Janet Leigh Marion Crane Vera Miles LilaCrane and John Gavin Sam Loomis The small town in Arizona settingadds another level of creepiness and terrorAs the movie starts Marion Crane has taken an early day from work andis driving out of her small town she has just come about 40000 and isrunning She comes to a small motel with a large looming house in thebackground During her first night she is brutally murdered and her carwith her in it was pushed into a lake Her sister and boyfriend getworried at home and decide to hire a private detective As he starts tolook around he tries to avoid the same fate as the woman he issearching forOne major film aspect in Psycho is the background music Hitchcock usedthe music to create a specific mood in many of the scenes For examplein the scene where Marion is being murdered they dont show the woundsdirectly but the ominous music gives the viewer a great feeling of fearand disgust for the horrible way she dies In another scene as Marionssister and boyfriend are searching for her the menacing tune in thebackground brings a feeling of suspense as if something is about to goterribly wrongAnother section Psycho did very well was set design One of the bestexamples of this is the big scary house behind the motel because nobodyknows anything about it or what they would find in it The house lookslike the stereotypical haunted house up on hill dark and old Anothergreat example of set design is when Marion and her car are dumped in thepond The pond is in the middle of a swampy and woodsy area and is verydark and gives the viewer the notion of She will never be found thereEven though I am not a fan of horror movies I
