A Brief Account of The Devastation of the Indies written by Bartolome De Las Casas is a very graphic a description of vile acts that were done by the Spanish Christians who took advantage of the Indians oblivious to the outside world Bartolome De Las Casas starting of as being a mere soldier became a very passionate defended of the Indian rights Originally he wrote the book only in Spanish but it did not stayed that way for long In very short time the book was translated into multiple languages and was spread to all the corners of the discovered at that time worldBartolome De Las Casas was son of a wealthy merchant farther who permitted him to become and educated man instead of following the footsteps of the past generations of traders In the first couple of years while on his travels thorough the Indian lands Bartolome De Las Casas encountered many recognized leaders that lead the conquers of the Indian land He accompanied some of them and helped in the chaplain services In reward for his services Las Casas received Indians and land By all appearances he had settled in to become a typical encomendero page 4 To the surprise of many he freed his entire slave assembly and became to what is known till this day the modern eras most articulate defender of Indian slaves Shortly after the book Devastation of the Indies followed pleading the Spanish royalty to stop the injustice that was being done the Indian people But even after he was able to agree The Holy Roman Emperor Charles V with his Upon arrival to the newly discovered land the Spanish explorers otherwise known as conquistadors were though of to be the Gods by the Indians As described by Batholome Indian people welcomed the new visitors with open arms and their most precious possessions ready to be delivered as gifts Besides the discovery of the new lands the first
