Bridget's feedback:
"You've really captured the style of sports journalism's heavily invested, lyrical voice to create a fascinating narrative-style moment-in-history. You do a really good job bringing the reader through the ins and outs of the strike that indicates a mastery of the topic. I have a few different areas of feedback. The first is to make sure to proofread to catch minor errors (capitalization, punctuation) and review your writing for flow and clarity. The first paragraph would be better broken into two, probably around "The baseball strike of '94 officially hit..." My other broad area of feedback is regarding purpose. Reading this in 2020, I am having trouble placing this piece of writing: it seems to be written either in 1994 or from the perspective of 1994. If this is an assignment to write as if it is 1994, then you have certainly created an in-the-moment feeling. If this is a more recent piece, I would suggest some follow-up to help the reader understand the strike's history; baseball has had some drama recently, and 2020 has seen a shortened season--how does the strike compare? You can still use present tense narrative modes to create urgency and immediacy, but other areas of the paper should place the reader in the ongoing timeline and context. If this was indeed written in 1994 and you want to revise it today (in 2020, where I am, for example), I would also suggest bringing us through the repercussions and end with baseball today. (Again, you can keep the use of present tense narration while also balancing it with a more recent perspective.)"
