Imagine a life full violence a strong brotherhood and financial security A life with authority because the police were either paid off or to scared to go after anyone This was all in the life of an Italian mobster From racketeering gambling prostitutes and drugs the mafia made a profit from it all There was not to many illegal activities the mafia would not do violently to have financial security Not the entire mob participated in drug traffic but there was one thing for sure They had a strong brotherhood and respect for each other that was hard to break Goodfellas is a movie directed by Martin Scorsese based off a book written by Nicholas Pileggi called Wiseguy that is based on real people and their lives Goodfellas depicts the rein all the way to the downfall of the Luchese family from 1955 to 1980 Even though he was born Irish Hill did not let that get in his way of joining the Italian mafia He started as a young boy under mob captain Paul Vario for the Luchese family He mostly ran errands for Varios businesses or the public officials digging in Varios pocket Hill often did not go to school to spend more time working for the Luchese family This lead to letters from school notifying Hills parents of his absents which led to beatings from his father Varios soldiers took care of the situation by encouraging the mailman with a little violence to stop the school mail from entering the Hills residence It was the protection and knowing the right people that drove Hill more towards the mob Hill did a great deal of heist with his two close mob friends Jimmy Conroy and Tommy DeVito DeVito later introduced Hill to his future wife Karen Greed ends up being one of the major downfalls
