Every year in the United States psychologists and other people havebecome more interested in psychological disorders than the year beforeAnd every year there are more movies made than ever before about peoplewith psychological problems One of the most famous of those is One Flewover the Cuckoos Nest starring Jack NicholsonOne Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest stars Jack Nicholson as a man namedMcMurtry who gets sent to an institution because he caused a lot ofproblems in prison and the prison wanted to see if he was crazy or notThe movie starts with McMurtry being sent to the institution aftercausing problems and starting fights in jail In the institution hemeets other patients doctors and most significantly nurse RatchettNurse Ratchett is the head nurse and at first it is unclear as towhether she is trying to help the patients or not She seems to be theonly one who wants Mac to stay when all the doctors decide he is fakinghis disorder She seems at first to be dedicated to trying to help himwhen nobody else wants to But ultimately it is revealed that she onlywants to keep him in because she does not want him to be free You seehe thinks he will stay at the institution for the duration of his prisonsentence and have an easier time than he would in prison but one ofthe orderlies tells him that the institution can hold him longer thanhis sentence-the could even hold him for the rest of his life It turnsout this is true-people can be held in institutions against there willforever Anyway when he finds that out he stops trying to provokenurse Ratchett-they had been going against each other- and tries to getalong for a while Anyway thing is he eventually goes back to beingagainst her But more about that laterWhen it comes to the disorder Mac has it isnt obvious what hes gotThe doctors think he is faking it The DSM says he is maybe malingeringwhich is
