The poem Journey of the Magi may seem to be just the story of some Magi and their mens wild experiences in the desert However the details in the poem prove otherwise In all truth the poem describes how the world is full of sin but changing upon the coming of a birth The Magi begin there journey in a distant place The journey begins not in the summer but in The very dead of winter 5 The world is cold not only because of the winter but because of the sin the world The cold inflicts its toll on the Magi and their men The cold as if it were Satan himself trying to keep the Magi and their men away from Bethlehem They think of warmer and more fun times with their liquor and women The Magis men want to turn around and quit The men begin to go crazy With the voices singing in our ears saying that this was all folly 19 because of the cold As the Magi and their men begin to approach Bethlehem a new dawn comes Wet below the snow line smelling of vegetation with a running stream and a water-mill beating the darkness 22 Gods presence is ripping away the cold and lighting the way to Bethlehem for and old white horse galloped away in the meadow 25 the old white horse being God The smell of the new vegetation and the running stream is new life In the distant three trees on the low sky 24 the Magi are standing tall In Bethlehem the Magi and their men meet temptations They come upon a tavern where there is six hands at an open door dicing for pieces of silver 27 The tavern is unacceptable for it has gambling and liquor The Magi and their men come upon their destination a manger Finding the place it was you may say satisfactory 31 They find
