In every story at least one character exhibits his or her own form of individuality Individuality can be defined as the sum of the traits peculiar to an individual In the stories Forgiveness Smokers and Haircut we see certain characters utilizing their individuality Rocky and Wendy Eugene and Jim Kendall could be considered individuals because of the way they think and act In the story Forgiveness Rocky and Wendy are depicted as individuals with their own beliefs Wendy decides that she does not have to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance Coach Whalen becomes so annoyed that he gives Wendy a detention Despite the detention she continues to read during the Pledge Her disregard for authority makes Coach Whalen so aggravated that he actually suspends Wendy for three days Rocky hears about Wendys suspension and immediately takes an interest in her Desperately wanting to meet Wendy Rocky believes they have many characteristics in common Rocky also takes a stand when he decides to quit football because the coach wants to let the star player go after he gets drunk and breaks into a car Coach Whalen asks the team What do you say men Will you let bygones be bygones Rocky and Wendy start spending more time together and really get to know one another They act the way they feel like acting and not the way everyone else wants them to act Eugene from the story Smokers could also be considered an individual because he has his own way of doing things The narrator of the story tells us I noticed Eugene before I actually met him There was no way not to notice him Eugene is characterized as a clumsy odd looking fellow He seems like the Dennis Rodman type with his style of dress and his actions He dresses in a green Alpine hat with feathers stuck in the brim belted jackets and white buck shoes which nobody
