Northville Park and Pool Association is my home More than my home is my home I walk through the front gate and everyone knows who I am It was my playground My childhood took flight there blending with the young minds of children who ran barefoot with the bare essentials of clothing on-- sometimes less It was my first workplace but even then I knew my coworkers and bosses since I was born The people there were my second family and I loved themMany traditions took place there From the Fourth of July Parade to the Easter Egg Hunt everyone could celebrate the long history of our adopted home The most famous event is always the Annual Family Bonfire and Camp Out Families from all over the neighborhood come and set up tents in the meadow behind the building Children are allowed to run wild in the dark with glow sticks flailing while parents lounge around the bonfire sharing stories smores and smiles It is always highly anticipated and a streaking highlight of the summer Unfortunately this year was remembered for a more tragic reasonHaving a 1030 PM curfew for the children the night is when the rebel teenagers stay up and cook hot dogs while playing truth or dare It was midnight and our rations of hot dogs and hot cocoa were running low No one wanted to blink first Blinking leads to eye-drooping Eye-drooping leads to yawning And yawning leads to curling up asleep in a lawn chair by a dead black fire No no one wanted to blink first So how about a little midnight walk down to the lake suggested my coworker Stacie deviously She was referring to the lake infested with toxic fish slithering snakes and snapping turtles It was a swamp masquerading as a lake but it was also circumferenced by thick eerie woods Needless to say this place freaked me out in the daytime No way was I
