In the essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell it talks about the struggle of the police officer versus an elephant In the essay there is an elephant that is used as piece of machinery to work the fields that has become in must and has escaped the grounds of where it works While the elephant was in rage it ended up destroying the markets and killing one person After the elephant has calmed down thats when the police officer shows up to the siteThe police officer is forced to choose to let the animal live or to shot the animal because it harmed another human being This is when the whole dilemma of letting the elephant live or be killed takes place The officer pauses for a long time before making his final choice of what has to be done to this animal In the end the police officer and the overly angry towns people help in the decision making of what must be done to the elephant Part twoThis essay Shooting an Elephant by George Orwell sparked an interest for me This essay showed the dilemmas of what any other person would have to go through if they too had to choose between putting down an animal or keeping it alive However this story wasnt only about animal rights or human right but to me it made me wonder what about the power struggles of social classes The working class verses the government The elephant could represent the working class getting out of line the police officer reinforcing the law and the repercussions of what happens when people or animals act out of line
