Bridget's feedback:
"The presence of critical commentary promises a rich analysis of the two texts, so I first want to encourage you to attend to how the quotations are presented vis-a-vis your argumentation. Make sure to guide the reader into the quoted material via signal phrases and other transition and signposting language that helps assert your control over the outside sources. Subordinating the commentary to your own argumentation likewise keeps the main focus (your thesis and essay) clear and organized for the reader. At the moment, several body paragraphs are overwhelmed by the use of direct quotations, and your writing risks getting lost in the noise, a problem for clarity and ethos.
A similar task related to clarity will be in making sure it is consistently clear which novel/novella is being discussed and when the two are being grouped together. Proofreading and revision will also help reach this goal, aiming for precision and clarity in word choice that allows the reader to focus on the ideas and follow the discussion."
